Antrim Civic Centre, Ballyclare Town Hall and Mossley Mill were lit up blue yesterday for Sarcoidosis Awareness Month.
Sarcoidosis is a rare disease, where lumps called granulomas develop at different sites within the body. Sarcoidosis can affect many different parts of the body and when many granulomas form in an organ, they can prevent that organ from working properly. Sarcoidosis affects around 1 in 10,000 people in the UK and there is currently no cure.
Sarcoidosis is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood by doctors, leaving patients feeling confused and isolated. SarcoidosisUK works to support anyone affected by sarcoidosis by providing information and support, funding research into a cure and raising awareness of the disease.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Mark Cooper said, “I'm proud to see our civic buildings lighting up blue for Sarcoidosis Awareness Month. It's crucial that we shine a light on this rare disease and show our support for those affected. Let's continue to spread understanding, support, and hope for everyone impacted by sarcoidosis."
