Allotments

If you enjoy working outdoors and like a challenge then an allotment could be perfect for you.  Allotments can be hard work at times but can be very rewarding.

Council operates a number of allotment sites across the Borough including Ballyearl, Rathfern, Greystone in Antrim, the Grange in Ballyclare and New Mossley, which offer over 180 plots to local residents and community groups.

In addition to this, there are also a number of community and privately operated sites across the Borough. Far removed from the flat cap image of the past, allotments are very sociable and a great way to meet fellow gardeners, relax and stay fit and active.

If you are interested in gardening but don’t have room at home, renting an allotment is an inexpensive way of gardening in your own space. Grow your own fruit and vegetables, try out different varieties and get involved in this growing past time with fellow gardeners exchanging tips and ideas.

Six benefits of having your own allotment

Applying for an Allotment

At present all of our plots are fully allocated however you can add your name to a waiting list by contact the Parks Administration Team via E. allotments@antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk or T. 028 9034 0139 (9am to 5pm – Monday to Friday).

When a plot becomes available we will contact you via the details provided, so please inform us of any changes or you could lose your place on the list.

Once you are contacted by us with an offer to view an allotment, you will have 14 days to visit the site and accept the plot before the offer is withdrawn.

It is always advisable to visit the site and see the plot before you sign the tenancy agreement so you can see exactly where it is and what condition it is in. Top tip: the weekend is usually a good time to visit!

If no response is received, we will assume that you are no longer interested in having an allotment and will remove your details from the waiting list.
