After five weeks of action packed activities for young people in the Newtownabbey area, Youth Zone at the Valley Leisure Centre came to an end. The scheme, funded by Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership and run in conjunction with Valley Leisure Centre, kicked off in July and has attracted over 100 young people aged 9-18 years each Saturday evening.
Speaking about this year’s programme, Debbie Taylor, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s PCSP Project Officer commented;
“Now in its 4th year, the Youth Zone Scheme has gone from strength to strength and it is proving extremely popular with young people in the Newtownabbey area. Activities this summer have included a climbing wall, circus skills, bubble football, arts/crafts and educational sessions from FASA (Forum Against Substance Abuse). The scheme is staffed entirely by youth volunteers who give up their Saturday evenings to volunteer at the scheme. A huge thanks to everyone involved.”
