Views Sought on Planning for Local Area

07 September 2015

Antrim and Newtownabbey Council is encouraging the community to become involved in all aspects of planning for the local area.

Councillor Roderick Swann, Chairperson of the Council’s Planning Committee explains, “Given our new role as decision-makers and place shapers, we are committed to consulting widely with residents, businesses, local groups and organisations about our new planning responsibilities. With the bulk of planning powers now in the control of the Council, this is bringing decision-making closer to local people.

Councillor Swann continues, “The Council’s Planning section has prepared a Draft Statement of Community Involvement which sets out how we propose to engage with the community. We believe that engagement is an essential part of the planning process both for today and to assist in directing our visions for the future of the Borough.  In particular, as we take forward a new Plan for the Borough, we want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to have a say in how we should shape our area in the future.”
