Ophir 7’s Kick Off in Newtownabbbey

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Cllr Thomas Hogg is joined by Craig Smith; Club Presiden, Ken McMordie; Andrew Youll and Karl Davis to launch the Ohphir 7’s Tournament taking place on 7th and 8th August.  

 

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, teamed up with members of Ophir Rugby to launch this year’s Ophir 7’s tournament which takes place on 7th and 8th August at Magowan Park, Cottonmount, Mallusk. 

Kick starting the rugby season, on Friday 8th Under 18’s will play for the Ken Bonar Memorial trophy from 6:30pm – 9pm.   On Saturday 9th Under 16’s will play from 9:30-11:30am, then from 1-6pm an adult tournament will take place, playing for the Will Totten Memorial Trophy. 

As well as a great weekend of rugby, Saturday’s activities will also include a BBQ, bouncy castle and face painting.

Speaking at the launch, the Mayor commented;

“I’d once again like to welcome Ophir Rugby to the Borough for what promises to be a great weekend of sport and family fun.  Clubs from all over Ulster will travel here to participate in this two day event and I would like to wish all the teams well.  I’m sure there will be a great turn out of spectators for what is sure to be an action packed two days.”
