The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, joined Damien O’Neill from Allianz to officially open the Allianz Garden Show Ireland at Antrim Castle Gardens this morning. Speaking at the official opening, the Mayor commented;
“Following the huge success of this event last year at Antrim Castle Gardens, I am delighted to once again welcome Allianz Garden Show Ireland for its second year to the Borough of Antrim and Newtownabbey. This is the premier event of this type and brought in the region of 20,000 visitors to the Borough last year. If the weather stays kind, then I anticipate even greater numbers will attend the show this year.
I am so pleased that the stunning Antrim Castle Gardens will once again be showcased throughout the weekend. The Council is extremely proud of this spectacular venue, which is the largest ever historic garden restoration undertaken in either Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland and winner of numerous awards. Hosting Allianz Garden Show Ireland in such a fabulous setting ensures this facility receives the recognition it deserves from such a high profile event.
I wish everyone involved a marvellous weekend and look forward to seeing this superb event return once again to the Borough in 2016.”
The Mayor also paid tribute to the event organisers and Council staff who have worked so hard behind the scenes and sponsors Allianz for their invaluable contribution.
