Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor Thomas Hogg has congratulated Councillor Billy Webb JP on the award of MBE in Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. The award is in recognition of services to Local Government and the community.

The Mayor, Councillor Hogg, commented, “The prestigious award of MBE is fitting recognition for Councillor Webb after 18 years of service as a local Councillor, which included successful terms as both Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Newtownabbey. Of course the award also reflects the service of Councillor Webb in many voluntary capacities, including with Ulster Garden Villages, The White House Preservation Trust and as Chairman of Newtownabbey Community High School. Most notably he has served as Chairman of Northern Ireland Hospice since 2012 during what has been a significant period of development for that very worthy charity. On behalf of the Council I congratulate Billy on this very well deserved honour and wish him well for the future.”

Councillor Billy Webb was first elected to represent the Macedon District Electoral Area in 1997. Councillor Webb is a retired civil servant and lives in the borough with his wife Pat.
