Make This a Memorable Christmas – For The Right Reasons!
14 December 2015
Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership is reminding residents of the Borough of Antrim and Newtownabbey to be vigilant during the festive period, to avoid becoming a victim of crime.
Councillor Linda Clarke, Chairperson of Antrim and Newtownabbey PCSP says, “Christmas is a time for giving, but all too many are more interested in taking. Opportunistic criminals want to take the presents and gifts you have bought for loved ones and are also on the lookout for your valuables. Antrim and Newtownabbey PCSP want to ensure that all residents have a safe and enjoyable Christmas. You can do this by taking just a few simple steps to improve your home security, remaining mindful of the possibility of burglary and theft.”
- Do not display items in your vehicle when shopping and where possible park in well lit, secure car parks.
- Shoppers should also exercise caution around cash points, keep wallets/purses close to their body and never leave handbags unattended.
- Keep Christmas presents in your home out of sight.
- Keep your doors and windows locked at all times - avoid becoming an easy target.
If you receive valuable items as Christmas gifts, these should be security marked and a note kept of serial numbers. Dispose of packaging carefully so as not to advertise high value items in your home.
Community Planning Sergeant, Stephen Moore, PSNI advises “Christmas is enjoyable for most people, but it’s important that during this time of celebration, we all remember to take practical precautions to keep our property, our loved ones and ourselves free from harm.”
Watch out for the Antrim and Newtownabbey PCSP advertising campaign aimed at helping to keep residents safe throughout this seasonal time.
