Randalstown based business Glendale Tree Services have chopped their broadband costs by receiving a grant of almost £3,000 through the superfast broadband vouchers scheme.

The government-backed scheme is worth around £40 million and more than a thousand NI companies have already received the Connection Voucher.  The scheme is open to Small to Medium-sized Enterprises in the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough.

The grant covers installation costs, while the business only pays for VAT charges and monthly line rental.  Monthly costs vary according to provider, but a third of UK business are only paying £40 a month or less for superfast broadband connection of up to 100MBs.

Speaking about the grant, the Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, commented;

“This grant will be a huge boost to productivity and I would urge any local business that is eligible to apply, to do so.  Upgrading to faster broadband helps businesses grow and access new markets and helps future-proof for the digital challenges of tomorrow. Faster, better broadband will allow you to operate your business more efficiently, saving you time and resources and reducing the need for travel.  With no delay in connection time, faster processing times are possible so you can increase productivity and communicate with suppliers and customers more efficiently. “

Kirstie Cameron from Glendale Tree Services added;

“By utilising the £3000 grant available through the Connection Vouchers Scheme, the installation of a superfast broadband connection gives us a twenty fold increase in our download and upload speeds.  The increased speed and reliability will enable us to become more efficient in communicating with our customers, giving us the ability to further drive the business forward.”
