The Mayor of Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, joined Lauren Smythe from Ulster Tennis today to launch the Parks Tennis Programme taking place this summer at Mossley Pavillion. The programme runs from Monday 3 – Friday 7 August and aims to teach the essentials of tennis to 6-17 year olds, with free family sessions also taking place.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, commented;
“Budding tennis players who’ve been inspired by the latest action at Wimbledon can try out tennis this summer as part of the Park’s Tennis Programme. I’d like to welcome Parks Tennis Northern Ireland to the Borough and encourage children and families to come along and enjoy what will be an action packed week.”
Lauren Smythe from Ulster Tennis added:
“The Newtownabbey Parks Tennis programme first started at Mossley Pavilion 5 years ago and in 2014 it attracted over 40 players. This popular programme offers locals of all ages, abilities and social backgrounds the opportunity to try tennis as a healthy sport for life and learn new skills. Those who already play tennis will enjoy getting in some practice, improving their fitness and having fun. We encourage everyone to come along and join in with their family and friends this summer. ”
The programme runs for a week and costs £20 per child. A session for 6-10 year olds will run from 2:30-3:30pm and a session for 11-17 year olds will run from 3:30-4:30pm. Free family sessions will run every Wednesday in August from 7-9:30pm.
