The Mayor hosted the tribute which was marked by a tree planting ceremony at Mossley Mill and was attended by council members and staff and Trade Union representatives.
Speaking at the Workers’ Memorial Day event the Mayor said:
“Today is not only a day of remembrance; it is also an opportunity to highlight the preventable nature of most workplace incidents and to promote campaigns to improve workplace safety for all.
“While Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has not had any fatalities through workplace accidents, other employers throughout the Borough have sadly experienced tragic incidents in their workplace.”
The remembrance tree has been planted at the entrance to Mossley Mill.
