Council Leader Scoops Prestigious Award

Former Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Assistant Chief Executive and Director of Environment & Leisure Services, Mr Hugh Kelly, won the Award for Leader of the Year at the spectacular 2015 Investors in People Awards ceremony held in London at The Pavilion, Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress on Wednesday 24 June.
Mr Kelly was one of ten finalists in what is by far the most competitive and sought after individual Award. It recognises inspirational leadership that stands out above the rest and the winner must be able to communicate a clear purpose and vision with passion, enthusiasm and energy and are exemplars of excellence.
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council Chief Executive, Jacqui Dixon commented;
“I am delighted that Hugh has been honoured in this way. I wish to congratulate Hugh and his family on this much deserved recognition and wish him a long and healthy retirement.”
The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Hogg commented;
“Hugh has been responsible for maintaining the essence of Newtownabbey through providing a clean environment and ensuring efficient service delivery, whilst making a significant contribution to the social, economic, active, health and cultural life of Newtownabbey. Well done, Hugh.”
Mr Kelly worked for the former Newtownabbey Borough Council for 25 years and will retire from service this summer.
