Community Relations and Cultural Awareness week takes place from Monday 28 September until Sunday 4 October, with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council hosting a series of events in recognition of the occasion.
Museum at the Mill at Mossley Mill is hosting the exhibition ‘One Place Many Faces’ until Saturday 3 October. It’s amazing how with a little paint, external images are easily changed so this event challenges us to not judge on appearance. The majority of images are of masks decorated using ultraviolet paints by young people attending the BEAT (Be Educated, Be Active, Be Together) programme. The programme ran in Crumlin, Randalstown, Rathenraw, Muckamore, New Mossley and Longlands/ Bawnmore over the summer period. It’s definitely worth a visit!
On 1 October the Templeton Hotel will be the venue for the Leading Ladies event, which is a local launch of Toward Understanding and Healing’s ‘To Tell You the Truth’ by Eamonn Baker, featuring readings from some of the book’s contributors, including two of our own local leading ladies Mary Kelly and Kathy Wolff. Both women will recount some of their emotional stories of their very personal losses and grief they experienced as a consequence of the ‘Troubles’ in Northern Ireland.
If you missed it first time round, you might be interested in the special free screening of Gnomeo & Juliet, a British animated family comedy film based on William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. The screening will take place in the newly refurbished Glengormley Pavilion on Sunday 4 October at 3.30pm. This event is a great opportunity to visit this wonderful new facility in the heart of the community.
