Children Hailed As Heroes By Mayor

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, invited Thomas, Ella and their mum to Mossley Mill to recognise their bravery.
The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, has commended two local children for their bravery when it came to saving their mother’s life. Tomas Doole (age 10) and Ella Doole (age 7) stayed calm and got help for their mum when she slipped into a diabetic coma.
On hearing a noise one morning, Tomas and Ella went to investigate only to discover their mum, Kerry, had fallen down beside her bed and they were unable to wake her up. She had fallen into a diabetic coma. Tomas tried to phone for help on his mum’s phone but it kept locking them out. Ella meanwhile fetched a blanket and a pillow to make their mum more comfortable. The children then got Ella’s phone and used Facetime to contact their Nana who lived in the Isle of Man to tell her what had happened. Nana rang for an ambulance and their dad, then face-timed Tomas and Ella back to keep them company until help arrived. The children remained very calm throughout and with their quick thinking saved their mum’s life. The family are all very proud of them.
The Mayor commented, “Witnessing someone falling ill, especially for a child, can be a very daunting experience. I am very impressed with how calm and brave Thomas and Ella were and they should be very proud of themselves. They are a shining example for the Borough.”
