What Mummy Did Next Programme

05 August 2016

Following the recent successful run of  What Mummy Did next in Newtownabbey in May of this year, the business teams at Mallusk Enterprise Park and Antrim Enterprise Agency have teamed up to the bring the free training programme to Mums based in the Antrim area.

What Mummy did next is made up of six evening training sessions, aimed specifically at local women who have taken time out of their careers to raise a family and are now at a stage where they would like to return to work and/or would also like to explore the option of self-employment. These ladies could run a business from home without disrupting their daily routine and without having the financial pressure to hire a childminder.

What Mummy did Next is an unique training programme targeting three areas:

Self-esteem: Being out of the workplace can give your confidence a knock and building this back up is the challenge.

Ideas Generation: We know that often it is not the drive to succeed that is the problem but not knowing in which direction to turn.  What Mummy Did Next will help you come up with a business idea unique to you to help get you started!

Business Skills: What Mummy Did Next will help you succeed by teaching you the skills necessary to run your very own successful business from home!

Melanie Fitzpatrick, company Director at Gusto Business Consultancy, will be primarily delivering the training for What Mummy did Next (WMDN). Since 2002, Melanie has supported over 2000 individuals via training and mentoring, and has written over 1500 business plans.

Reflecting on the most recent course of the What Mummy did next programme held at Mallusk enterprise Park, Ms Fitzpatrick said:

“This is definitely one of my favourite training programmes.  As well as learning the theory behind business start-up, every participant has the opportunity to put their newly developed skills into practice!  Every mummy that I spoke with LOVED that they had an opportunity to meet other women in the same position as them; that is, needing time away from home to decide if self-employment is a possible option either now or in the near future. My particular favourite was one mummy who said this course was less stressful than normal situations because she knew it was ok to talk about her children, knowing she would not bore everyone!”

Mags McAlpin, Managing Director at Creating Retail Magic – Northern Ireland’s specialist visual merchandising and retail consultancy- will also be returning to WMDN to deliver a special ‘Skills Polishing Workshop’ as part of this new programme in Antrim.  Looking back on her experience with the WMDN group in Mallusk, Mags says it was a ‘pleasure’ to work with ‘a special group of talented and gifted women’, She goes on to say, ‘It was my privilege to have the opportunity to impart my knowledge, support and experience to them, and it was my honour to be part of their exciting journey as they write their own inspiring story of What Mummy Did Next’

The next installment of What Mummy did next will kick off at Antrim Enterprise Agency on the 31st August, from 6pm to 8pm and every Wednesday evening thereafter until 5th October.
