Businesses from all over the North East of Northern Ireland descended on Mossley Mill, on Thursday 11th June to attend a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event. The event was held as part of the Sales Growth 2 Programme, a Local Economic Development Programme which has run in the Council areas of the North East Region over the last 12 months. Funded by the Borough Councils, the Sales Growth 2 Programme is part-financed by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.
The event attracted some of the largest public and private sector buyer organisations from across Northern Ireland Including Fire & Rescue NI, HSC, Translink and Rainbow Communications. Over 150 Small-to-Medium sized Enterprises attended the event to avail of the opportunity to pitch their products and services in a bid to win potentially valuable supply contracts.
The SME businesses were matched with the procurement requirements of each of the buyer organisations and then allocated one-to-one appointments to present their offering. Amy Chestnutt of local web development company AS Zine Ltd, based in Portrush, said ‘This event has been fantastic for us. Being given the opportunity to meet several large organisations who need to purchase the services we offer is invaluable to us. We don’t often get this level of opportunity in a concentrated dose. We’ve made many useful contacts and I’m confident that we’ll win business as a result of today.’
Speaking on behalf of the participating Councils Deputy Mayor of Antrim & Newtownabbey, Councillor John Blair said:
“Events like this provide valuable opportunities for local small businesses to supply their products and services to large organisations. These events are possible because the buyer organisations are willing to give the many talented small businesses in our Boroughs the opportunity to showcase their products and services with a genuine intent to purchase where they can. We are delighted by the level of participation from the buyer firms supporting local small businesses. Over 150 businesses have arrived at Mossley Mill today showing the SME sector is vibrant and ambitious and we’re keen to continue to support that ambition.”
The Sales Growth 2 Programme has given Owners, Managers and Sales Leaders of the participating SME businesses the opportunity to improve their sales performance by providing training and mentoring in the key areas of prospecting & lead generation, face-to-face sales, telephone sales and sales strategy for sustainable growth. The Meet the Buyer event was the final event in the 12 month Programme which has supported 63 businesses across Antrim and Newtownabbey, Mid and East Antrim and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Councils.
Moira Loughran, Invest NI’s North Eastern Regional Manager, said: “This Programme has supported businesses through a combination of sales training workshops and business mentoring. The meet the buyer event was the culmination of 12 months hard work for the participating businesses and an excellent opportunity to put all of their learning and development to good use. We are delighted at the feedback on the day from those attending and are pleased to see so many businesses taking up the opportunity to take their sales growth to the next level.”
The meet the buyer event was held on Thursday 11th June at Mossley Mill and was open to all Small-to-Medium sized businesses in the Antrim and Newtownabbey, Mid and East Antrim and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council areas including those businesses participating in the Sales Growth 2 Programme.
