Mayor Visits Completed Revitalisation Schemes

01 June 2015

This week the Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, visited the completed Revitalisation Schemes in Glengormley and Ballyclare.

A total of £270,000 was invested into both towns by Newtownabbey Borough Council and the Department of Social Development.  The Revitalisation Schemes supported existing traders in the development of their businesses and work included shop front improvements, planting, better signage and improved the attractiveness of the town centres.

The Mayor commented;

“It’s wonderful to see first-hand today the fantastic improvements in both Ballyclare and Glengormley.  The completed work has contributed to making both towns more appealing, helping existing businesses to improve their capacity to trade and will contribute to the long term viability and prosperity of the towns.  This success has been a result of the hard work from both the Ballyclare Chamber of Trade and Glengormley Chamber & Traders Association in partnership with the Council.

As the new Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council moves forward we hope to maintain and strengthen the valuable relationships formed throughout this process.  We also hope to build on the improvements, as the new Council will be responsible for regeneration powers and budgets when transferred from the Department for Social Development in 2016.”
