Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council have re-launched their Bricks & Clicks Programme for would-be retail entrepreneurs. The Programme aims to support individuals resident within the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council area who have aspirations and plans to start a retail business within the Borough.

The Programme combines one-to-one business mentoring services with a series of business start-up workshops focussing on key business disciplines including business planning, marketing and financial management. The Council welcomes applications for all types of retail start-up ideas and recognises that retail businesses come in all shapes and sizes. Some businesses will require retail premises whilst many are e-commerce facilitated and can be home-based or from a distribution warehouse.

Bricks & Clicks 2 will also support participants with a bursary of up to £500 towards start-up costs including market research, branding, sourcing products and website development. Furthermore, participants will be given the opportunity to shadow a successful retail business to see best practice being applied. A final element will see participants gain the opportunity to market test their product before launching the business to ensure that they have a viable and marketable suite of products.

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, said ‘this Programme demonstrates the Council’s continued drive to provide opportunities and support to local businesses. New business start-ups bring innovation, fresh ideas and employment into the Borough and this Programme underlines our commitment to make Antrim and Newtownabbey a more inviting place to live, visit and invest in.’

Only a limited number of places are available on the Programme and anyone interested should apply as soon as possible. The Programme will run from December 2015 to the end of March 2016.

A dedicated website has been set up to provide more information about the Programme. For more information, or to download an application form visit the website www.bricksandclicks2.org.uk.
