Antrim and Newtownabbey to Sparkle this Christmas

09 November 2015

This week saw the Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, launch the Borough’s 2015 Christmas Events Programme.

The festive entertainment kicks off in Antrim Town on Friday 20th November from 5.45pm in Market Square with musical entertainment hosted by Pete Snodden from Cool FM.  Santa will make his grand entrance with his Minion companions at 7.00pm and a spectacular fireworks display at 7.30pm will round off a perfect festive evening.

On Saturday 21st November in Glengormley and Saturday 28th November in Ballyclare, Willy Wonka and the Oompa-Loompas will be preparing for Christmas in their Chocolate Factory from 2.30pm.  Both events will have plenty of free family entertainment with tickets also available to purchase for the chocolate themed activities in Lilian Bland Pavilion and Ballyclare Town Hall.  Santa will arrive at 5.30pm at both locations to switch on the Christmas tree lights with the Mayor, Santa and Willy Wonka.

Santa will arrive by boat along the Sixmile Water River at 6.15pm on Thursday 10th December as part of the Winter Wonderland event at Antrim Loughshore Park.  This event begins at 6pm and is free to attend.  Activities on the night include face painting and Santa’s adventure activity playground to ensure a seasonal night is had by all the family.

Saturday 12th December until Sunday 20th December will see Antrim Castle Gardens transformed into an Enchanted Winter Garden from 4pm until 8pm each day. Be amazed at the stunning light installations from the spectacular transformation of the formal gardens and trees with multi-coloured lights, to the cascading courtyard lighting and the traditional sparkling Christmas tree.  With no admission fee there are plenty of activities to stimulate all of the senses, which promise to give a magical Christmas experience for all the family.

Don’t forget to support your local Christmas tree switch on over the coming weeks as trees throughout the Borough light up.  Further details on these tree lighting ceremonies and the full Christmas programme can be found on our website www.antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/christmas
