Over 140 runners from across Northern Ireland donned their running shoes on Friday night as they took part in the annual Antrim Road Race. The event, which is now in its fourth year, features a 5 mile road race as well as a 1mile kids fun run.
Starting and finishing at Antrim Stadium, the officially measured route with Championship timing, took in the beautiful sights of Antrim Castle Gardens, Rea’s Wood and Lough Shore Park.
Ben Branagh from St Malachy’s Athletics Club was the first male over the line with an impressive time of 25 mins and 31 secs. This was closely followed by the winner of the female section, Gemma Turley from Springwell Running Club who crossed the line at 32 mins and 12 secs.
Anna Boyle, Sport and Physical Activity Development Manager with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council said, “I was delighted to see so many people turn out at the race and enjoy the glorious sunshine. With official digital timing, this was a great event for both recreational and competitive runners.”
Anna continues, “Thanks must go to PACE Running Club for their support in organising the event and also providing marshals on the night.”
