22 May 2015

Over 90 children from seven Primary Schools in the Borough put their practice into play at the Primary Schools Challenge Kwik Cricket festival held at Muckamore Cricket & Lawn Tennis Club.

Antrim Primary School’s A Team won the competition beating Templepatick in a closely contested final, with Antrim Primary’s B Team finishing in third place.

Michael Hingston, Active Communities Cricket Coach for the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough said “Coaches from Muckamore Cricket Club have been extremely busy over the last few months delivering Kwik Cricket coaching sessions in the local schools. This coaching gave kids a chance to development their skills ahead of the tournament and compete at a top class facility at Muckamore Cricket Club.”

During the competition, coaches selected 25 children from a variety of schools to take part in the Aspire Sport Programme which is aims to capture talent and give kids an opportunity to further develop their cricket skills.  This programme is being delivered in partnership with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council and Cricket Ireland.

This was the eighth sporting event in the Antrim Primary Schools Challenge calendar.  The final event is swimming which will take place on Monday 8 June at Antrim Forum.
