Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council is delighted to present an exhibition of paintings by local artist Sorrel Wills, which celebrate the beauty of Antrim town. River Town will be on display in the Conservatory Gallery at Antrim Castle Gardens from Thursday 12 November until Saturday 19 December.

Sorrel lives in the Riverside area and walks her dog Sophie daily along the river. If not, she is often to be found enjoying the Castle Grounds and the Lough Shore. She is inspired when she sees the changes in the seasons and the rise and fall of the river. Her favourite views are the great swathes of wild garlic which grow in the spring.

Sorrel settled in Antrim 15 years ago. Of the town she says, "I didn't know much about Antrim before I came and hadn't expected to like it so much. I think Antrim has many elements of beauty and I want to capture it in a figurative style in its contemporary form. It is beautiful in the sunshine. I love to paint architecture too, particularly the traditional buildings which survive. I think they should be noticed, celebrated and valued.”

River Town features paintings of The Old Courthouse, the Castle Grounds and the river walk and is a beautiful celebration of Sorrel’s adopted home town.
