Tony mcCoy wins the Grand National on Don't Push It
Antrim champion jockey AP McCoy, was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the star-studded BBC Sports Personality of the Year show on Sunday.
McCoy, who rode more than 4,300 winners and retired from his much loved sport earlier this year, joins other sporting heroes on the list of honours including Sir Alex Ferguson and George Best.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg expressed his delight at AP’s recent honour; “We are all incredibly proud of AP and the pride he brings to Northern Ireland and to our Borough. His professionalism and dedication to the sport of horse racing is unwavering and he is without doubt the greatest jump jockey of all time.”
In recognition of his contribution to the world of sport, AP was awarded Freedom of the Borough in 2005 and was inducted into the Council’s Gallery of Sporting Legends at Antrim Forum in 2012.
The Sports Personality of the Year Awards were held in Northern Ireland for the first time and took place on Sunday at the SSE Arena in Belfast.
