Last Call for Community Heroes in Antrim and Newtownabbey

12 December 2018

Nominations are now closing for the third annual Live Here Love Here Community Awards and organisers are reminding the people of Antrim and Newtownabbey to nominate their ‘Community Heroes’ before the deadline on Monday 7 January at 12 noon – ensuring those who give up their time to keep our communities cleaner, greener and safer get the recognition they deserve.

The awards, held at Belfast City Hall on 12 February 2019, will be hosted by Lesser Spotted Journeys/Ulster presenter, Joe Mahon, and are organised by charity Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful – aiming to celebrate the work of groups and individuals who instil pride in communities across Northern Ireland through environmental action.

Last year the Antrim and Newtownabbey Litter Heroes Award went to the team at Tidy Randalstown for all their hard work on the community garden.  With the help from Antrim Borough Council, Heritage Lottery Fund and local sponsors Enkalon Foundation and Hutchinson Homes, the team created a beautiful hand laid wall with iron gates, a disabled friendly entrance, interpretation boards detailing wildlife and insects that occupy the garden, wild flower planting and a bug hotel plus easy access planting area, to encourage disabled people to experience gardening techniques.”

Helen Boyd, Chairperson, Tidy Randalstown comments:  “Winning the Award has invigorated our efforts and reinforced our determination to try to grow further ‘the volunteering ethos’ -  using it to transform the area where we live, and also within the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council Area and further afield.”

Jodie-Ann McAneaney, Live Here Love Here Manager said: “Whether your nominee is a dedicated litter hero, a tourism booster or a neighbourhood champion, now is your chance to say thank you.  If you know anyone who is dedicated to keeping our environment healthy make sure you don’t miss the deadline to nominate them and give them the recognition they deserve!”

Entry is free and easy, simply download an application pack from www.liveherelovehere.org, fill out the nomination form and send it to [email protected] before 12 noon on 7 January 2019.
