Healthy Eating for Ballyclare Cubs
01 May 2018
Cubs and leaders from Ballyclare Scout group received some valuable nutrition advice this week from Dr Janice McConnell, Nutrition and Wellbeing Officer at Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.
Dr McConnell commented, “The most recent national diet and nutrition survey indicates that only a very small percentage of children are consuming the recommended ‘5-a-day’ portions of fruit and vegetables, while the majority are exceeding recommended maximum sugar intakes. Intervening at an early age increases the chances of establishing healthy eating habits into adulthood, so we are always excited to have the opportunity to engage with younger groups of children”.
Michael Matthews, Cub leader added “As an organisation, we value healthy lifestyles and the significant role healthy eating can play. In reality, this ethos is integrated into the badge programme, helping the children recognise its importance”.
