There’s ‘Allot’ happening in Rathfern

06 April 2017

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is delighted to announce that work is now underway on the construction of an exciting, new Environmental Improvement Scheme including an allotment facility at Knockenagh Avenue, Rathfern. The project was awarded funding of £290,000 by the Council in February 2017.

Speaking at the sod-cutting, Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor John Scott commented, “I am delighted to see this exciting new development underway. The Council has various health and wellbeing initiatives and facilities like these are the perfect way to encourage the Rathfern community to get involved. Going forward I know that this facility will be well used by residents and I am delighted that Council has been able to fund such a worthwhile project. I would like to take this opportunity to give a special thank you to Rathfern Social Activity Centre who have been involved in the project and whose assistance has been instrumental in making this project happen.”

When complete, the facility will include 28 allotments, car parking, path works, landscaping, community garden, events space and a junior trim trail. For more information on the allotments contact Elaine Upton T. 028 9446 3113 or E. [email protected]
