Deputy Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Noreen McClelland attended the event and presented the winners with their prizes alongside Neil Palmer, from Stena Line the sponsor of the event. Councillor McClelland commented “I was delighted to see such a great turnout at the Stena Line triathlon event which is part of the Triathlon Ireland Calendar. This annual competition is a fun and inspiring event, pushing athletes to their limit to get across the finish line and perhaps set a new personal record.”
Councillor McClelland continued; “This is the second year, we ran the try-a-tri programme in advance of the event to encourage more triathlon novices to get involved and take up the sport. The six week programme, which took place at the Valley Leisure Centre, took participants through the various stages of training for a triathlon and prepared them for the their first ever event. There were 20 participants this year who were part of this programme which built on last year’s success and I would like to congratulate all those who completed the programme and took part in their first event.”
