Carnmoney PS and Tesco team team up

25 October 2017

The alley is used on a  daily basis to go to school and return from school. In the past some children had been stung by the nettles at the bottom of the alley.

The school management team, particularly the Principal, Brian Duff had asked parents and local politicians for help in clearing the alley.

Steven Maguire had proposed that his employer, Tesco could grant time off from work to a small team of Tesco staff, to clear the alley as part of the Tesco in the Community initiative.

As a result, Steven Maguire,Michael Rice and Alan McVeigh from Tesco Central Distribution Centre, met on Wednesday 27 September 2017 and organised a clean up of the alley this involved clearing nettles, weeds and other rubbish from the alley.

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council contributed by collecting the bags of weeds and taking them to the recycling plant. They also organised to get the weeds sprayed.

Brian Duff the Carnmoney school principal was very appreciative of this exercise and commented:

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council for its involvement in supporting Mr Steven Maguire and Tesco for helping to clean up the lane beside our school.  The clearance of weeds, removal of rubbish etc, was long overdue and I know everyone who uses the lane to access the houses behind our school or to access the school itself, very much appreciate everyone’s hard work.  Thank You."
