Wheelie Boxes on Route!

25 April 2016

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is pleased to announce that the next phase of triple-stack wheelie boxes are on their way to over 4,000 households in the Newtownabbey area.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg commented, “Residents in our Borough are great at recycling and to help make this process quicker and easier, new triple-stack wheelie boxes are being distributed to households across the Newtownabbey area. The triple-stack wheelie boxes will help encourage recycling and therefore reduce the amount of household waste going to landfill, which is great news for the environment.”

Items which can be recycled in the wheelie boxes include:
• Tins and cans
• Aerosols
• Food and drinks cartons
• Cardboard
• Glass bottles and jars
• Plastic Bottles
• Plastic pots, tubs and trays
• Newspapers and magazines
• Aluminium foil
• Textiles
• Household batteries

Approximately 8,000 homes within the Newtownabbey area have a wheelie box, with a further 4,000 to be included in this current phase. Households receiving the new wheelie boxes will also receive a new streamlined 180 litre bin for household waste to replace their current black bin, in a bid to also reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
