Rea's Wood needs your help
16 May 2016
Following a successful clean-up at Rea’s Wood last month, Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg is calling for volunteers to come along and help out with another clean-up this Saturday, 21 May.
Following the harsh winter storms, Rea’s Wood on the shores of Lough Neagh was severely littered with debris and although a huge amount has already been removed, a further clean-up is required to ensure the natural beauty of the area is restored.
Councillor Hogg is urging members of the public to come along and lend a hand; “The clean-up initiative last month was a great success and demonstrated the pride that the community has for this area. I would encourage anyone who walks, runs or cycles through this beautiful stretch of countryside to come along this Saturday and lend a hand as we help to restore this area of natural beauty”.
The clean-up will begin at 10.30am this Saturday, 21 May and a transport service will be provided for volunteers from Antrim Lough Shore Park.
Volunteers will be joined by staff and team members from Forestry Service, Live Here Love Here, Northern Ireland Environment Agency, Six Mile Water Trust, Lough Neagh Partnership, Tesco Antrim and Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.
All volunteers attending the clean-up must register with Nicola Murray at Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful on T. 028 9073 6920 or E. [email protected]
