Randalstown Ladies Lift Ulster Shield
04 January 2016
Randalstown Ladies Hockey Club enjoyed some major silverware over the festive period when they won the Denman Ulster Shield on Boxing Day.
Securing a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win over Queen’s University, the Randalstown side came from a goal down on two occasions before a late equaliser forced the penalty decider during a dramatic final at Stormont.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg conveyed his delight at the team’s success; “This is a fantastic achievement for the club and we are all incredibly proud of the whole team. Randalstown Ladies, who train at the facilities at Antrim Forum, last won this trophy back in 2006, so we are delighted to see it being brought back to the Borough for another year.”
Councillor Hogg continues; “Randalstown Hockey Club is no stranger to success and has featured in the line-up of winners at the former Antrim Borough Sports Awards for several years running. I wish the club every success and look forward to hearing of more victories in the future.”
