The sun shone in Rathcoole as the community came together to officially open their new Multi-Use Games Area. Situated along Rathmullan Drive, this £120,000 facility is a welcome addition for the area.

Outgoing Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg was delighted to officially open the new facility; “The development of this new Multi-Use Games Area is the culmination of hard work by many agencies and I would particularly like to thank the Northern Ireland Housing Executive for the land transfer. I would also like to thank the Department for Social Development and the Rathcoole Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership for their commitment to the project, including the consultation exercise which identified the need for the MUGA”.

Councillor Hogg continued; “Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is committed to the continued development of sport and physical activity throughout the Borough and the development of this new facility is just one way of engaging our young people in physical activity. I hope that over the coming months the children enjoy using this facility and I know there are plans in place for an activity programme in the new MUGA over the summer months”.

Rathcoole MUGA, which is fully floodlit, will be open from 9am – 9pm throughout the year.
