Let's Get Every Body Active
23 September 2016
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council are delighted to launch their new Every Body Active 2020 programme which is being delivered in partnership with Sport Northern Ireland.
This exciting new sport and physical activity programme, which received over £6m funding from the National Lottery, is aimed at getting more people, more active, more often.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor John Scott comments; “The Every Body Active 2020 Programme will offer a wide range of activities at a time and place that suits you. Allowing people to get involved on their own doorstep, coaches and physical activity leaders will deliver sports and activity programmes in locations such as parks, schools, community centres and local clubs as well as the traditional leisure facilities.”
Councillor Scott continues; “Our specialist coaches will also work with GP practices to increase the levels of physical activity for those who are inactive or would benefit from physical activity.”
Interim Chair of Sport Northern Ireland Brian Delaney commented; “Sport Northern Ireland welcomes the opportunity for further and future partnership collaborations with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council through the Every Body Active 2020 programme, to deliver sustainable increased participation in sport and physical activity, especially among women and girls, people with a disability and those living in areas of greatest social need. We look forward to seeing the impact of our investment for people in our communities, helping them to enjoy, engage and excel in sport and leading to a population which is more active more often.”
Regular exercise contributes so much to our physical and mental well-being. Regardless of age, ability or fitness level, the Every Body Active programme will have something to offer everyone. Building on the success of programmes such as Active Communities, this new initiative will help to ensure that sport and physical activity can make a genuine added value contribution to communities across the Borough.
