Jodie kicks her way to the Commonwealths

05 May 2016

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg recently paid a visit to Abbey Judo Club in Newtownabbey to wish club member Jodie Jordan every success ahead of the 2016 Commonwealth Judo Championships.

Jodie, who travels from Londonderry to the Valley Leisure Centre twice a week to train and compete at Abbey Judo Club, travelled to Port Elizabeth in South Africa where she returned home with a silver medal.

Councillor Hogg commented; “I was delighted to be able to meet with Jodie ahead of her trip to South Africa and witness at first hand her experience and determination to win. We are incredibly proud of Jodie and delighted that she was able to beat off the stiff competition and bring a medal back to the Borough. I wish Jodie every success and have no doubt that we will be hearing more about her in the future.”

Jodie is no stranger to success and recently won gold at the Sportif International in Edinburgh – an achievement which led to her being selected for the Great Britain Judo Squad.
