Food Glorious Food at the Fair

03 May 2016

The Mayor, Councillor Thomas Hogg, launches this year’s May Fair with Alderman Mandy Girvan and Councillor David Arthurs.

Ballyclare May Fair will be the tasty place to be from Tuesday 24 until Monday 30 May.  This year’s fair will kick off with the ever popular traditional horse fair in Six Mile Water Park and a celebration of local food and drink to mark the 2016 NI Year of Food and Drink.  Celebrity chef, Paula McIntyre, will be demonstrating how to make delicious Ulster Scots dishes and local chef Daniel Harvey, from Daniel’s @ Tweedies, will be cooking up some tasty treats for you to try at home.

Thursday 26 May continues the food theme with Food Sensory Sensation workshops for children from 3pm and for those budding Greenfingers a “grow your own” food workshop is taking place in the Town Hall from 7pm.

Saturday 28 May sees the return of the fantastic May Fair Parade at 1pm when the town will come alive with entertainment and colour.  Celebrity chef, Jenny Bristow, will be cooking up a storm with local food from 11.30am and there will be music to entertain young and old from 11am with Ulster Scots music, the Liberals and many more.

Other highlights throughout the week will include family fun days, James Huish & band, amusements, pet show, kids disco and an It’s a Knockout competition!  There will also be a spectacular fireworks display at 10.15pm on Saturday 28 May in Ballyclare Town Centre.

Full details of all activities and events are included in the programme which is available at Ballyclare Town Hall, www.antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk and at www.yourballyclare.com.
