Do your bit this Christmas - Recycle!
19 December 2016
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is giving residents some festive recycling tips to help reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill during the Christmas clear-up.
There are lots of items that can be recycled during the festive period, including cardboard boxes, food waste and plastic bottles just to name a few. If you have a real tree, you can recycle it by chopping it up and putting it into your brown bin, or by taking the full tree to one of our five recycling centres. You can also help reduce waste by using rechargeable batteries rather than disposable ones. There are also lots of recipes online at www.lovefoodhatewaste.com on how you can use up your leftovers instead of disposing of them in your brown bin.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor John Scott commented: ‘Christmas is a time of year when household waste is relatively high. We would like to encourage residents to recycle as much as possible over the festive period, whether it be using your brown bin, blue bin, kerbie boxes or triplestacks. There are also five fantastic recycling facilities across the Borough that our residents can avail of to help reduce waste.’
