Banish those winter blues at our Pop Up Park’s

11 February 2016

Matthew Gillespie and Liam Clinton from Urban Excel join Councillor Linda Clarke and PCSP Manager Andrew Irwin to launch the Pop Up Park Party events

Banish those winter blues and inject some colour into your community.  Come along to experience all there is to offer at an amazing ‘Pop Up Park’ in your local area!  Antrim and Newtownabbey PCSP are organising six ‘Pop Up Park’ events across the Borough in February and March.  There are a range of activities at each event perfect for teenagers so, if you are in the area, be sure not to miss out!  The activities include music and prizes from Cool FM, climbing wall, urban sports, circus skills, Bubble Football, Carnival Games, Laser Tag, Cage Football and more.

For something a bit different and to inject that bit of colour we all need at this time of year, you can also take part in a Colour Riot, supported by Antrim and Newtownabbey Good Relations Programme.  The colour riot is based on events and activities that take place to celebrate the Indian Holi Festival.  At this Hindu-Festival people celebrate the victory of good over bad and the beginning of the spring.  They throw colourful powder in the air to express freedom and to colour their everyday life.

Chair of Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership, Councillor Linda Clarke said, “The Pop Up Parks’ aim to give young people positive activities to take part in within their own locality.  Young people and parents will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from a range of statutory agencies and community groups who work with young people in different capacities.  I would encourage everyone to come along and take part in the activities on offer or even just call in to see what’s happening”

The events are taking place as follows:

Friday 26th February 6-9pm - V36 Park, Valley Leisure Centre

Saturday 27th February 2-5pm - Lillian Bland Park, Glengormley Town Centre

Friday 4th March – 6-9pm – Randalstown – John Street Car Park

Saturday 5th March - 2-5pm – Greystone, Antrim

Friday 11th March – 6-9pm - Ballyclare Comrades Football Club

Saturday 12th March – 2-5pm - Crumlin Leisure Centre

The Pop-Up Parks are being led by Antrim and Newtownabbey Policing and Community Safety Partnership with additional funding from the Antrim and Newtownabbey Good Relations Programme.
