Antrim and Newtownabbey get revved up for winter
12 October 2016
Last weekend, Environmental Health Officers from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council teamed up with Newtownabbey Road Safety Committee to hold their annual Vehicle Roadshow at the Valley Leisure Centre. The event involved tyre safety checks and headlamp beam assessments carried out by staff from Magowan Tyres and Bailies Auto. Officers from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council were also on hand, offering members of the public vehicle emission testing.
Mrs Pat Martin, Chair of the Road Safety Council for Northern Ireland commented, “Of the 36 vehicles tested, 14 were found to have one or more tyres under the legal limit and 11 were found to have a fault with the headlight or brake lights. With the dark nights and winter weather on its way, it is important that road users recognise the importance of vehicle safety.”
