Antrim and Newtownabbey Celebrates Fairtrade Fortnight!
01 March 2016
There’s a lot going on at Castle Mall, Antrim on Friday 11 March from 10am to 4pm at the Fairtrade Cookery Demo and Fair. Why not pop down to sample the delicious Fairtrade Cooking from International award winning chef and author of ‘Feast or Famine,’ Emmett McCourt. The live cookery demonstrations will run from 1pm-2pm over lunchtime with a mobile kitchen sponsored by Flogas.
This event will provide you with inspiration on the tasty treats that can be prepared using Fairtrade ingredients, many of which will also be available to buy for you to try at home. Stalls will be selling a range of products and local crafts, perfect for Easter!
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg commented, “The market offers visitors the opportunity to purchase some well-priced, unique and ethical gifts for family and friends. The cookery demonstration is designed to encourage everyone to continue supporting Fairtrade as this will help farmers and workers, both locally and across the globe obtain a fair return for their produce.”
This special event is part of Fairtrade Fortnight for which the slogan this year is simply ‘Sit down for breakfast, stand up for farmers!’ So why not do your bit and enjoy a Fairtrade breakfast in your community during Fairtrade Fortnight? There are lots of hints and tips available as well as a chance to put your event on the map on the Fairtrade Foundation website. Visit www.fairtrade.org.uk for more information.
