Antrim Castle Gardens crowned as Best Northern Ireland Park

Deputy Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Noreen McClelland, Ursula Fay, Head of Arts & Culture Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, receive the award at Lords Cricket Ground from Graham Le Saux , Fields in Trust ambassador.
Antrim Castle Gardens was crowned Best Northern Ireland Park at Fields in Trust, Best UK Park category, at their awards ceremony at Lords Cricket ground last night.
Deputy Mayor, Councillor Noreen McClelland received the award from former England football star and Fields in Trust ambassador, Graham Le Saux, accompanied by Chair of Operations Committee, Councillor Jim Montgomery and Head of Arts and Culture, Ursula Fay.
Antrim Castle Gardens were shortlisted for UK’s Best Park 2016, along with Pontypool Park in Torfaen, Preston Park Rockery in Brighton and Rouken Glen Park, Renfrewshire, who went on to win the award.
Speaking after the ceremony Fields in Trust Chief Executive, Helen Griffiths, said: "The Fields in Trust Awards help recognise the role that parks and other green spaces play in our communities, bringing people together and creating a safe outdoor environment that everyone should have access to no matter where they live. We believe that as a nation it is time to revalue these green spaces and consider the positive impact they have on our physical, mental and social health and wellbeing and the savings to the public purse they represent in terms of preventative medicine”
Antrim Castle Gardens will host our Enchanted Winter Garden from Thursday 8 until Sunday 18 December from 4pm -8pm daily. This free family event which attracted 17 thousand visitors to our Borough last year is the perfect opportunity to showcase the majestic setting. Antrim Castle Gardens are transformed into a winter wonderland, with stunning light installations, a forest of fire, wonderland woods, Christmas train, festive fayre , a reindeer trail and everyone’s favourite, Santa’s Grotto.
