Over 115 runners from across Northern Ireland donned their running shoes on Friday night as they took part in the fifth annual Antrim 5 mile race.

Starting and finishing at Antrim Stadium, the officially measured route, with Championchip timing, took in the beautiful sights of Antrim Castle Gardens, Rea’s Wood and Lough Shore Park.

Mark McKinstry from North Belfast Harriers was the first male over the line with an impressive time of 26 mins and 11 secs. This was closely followed by the winner of the female section, Amy Bulman who crossed the line at 31mins and 53 seconds.

Local running club PACE, who train twice a week at Antrim Stadium, was well represented on the night with Ramona Couples and Cathy Hamilton achieving a first and third place respectively in the female veteran section.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor John Scott was there to greet the runners across the finish line, “After some torrential rain in the afternoon, I was delighted to see so many people turn out at the race.  With official digital timing, this was a great event for both recreational and competitive runners. ”

Councillor Scott continues, “Congratulations to all those who took part and completed the race. Thanks must go to PACE Running Club for their support in organising the event and also providing marshals on the night.”
