Summer holidays – what to do...
While we look forward to the break from the pack lunches, homeworks and washing uniforms – school holidays can bring a new question – what are we doing today?
So if you need to get out of the house and are looking for a low budget day out – how about visiting one of the Borough's beautiful parks? Walks, cycling, picnics, ball games, playgrounds – the options are endless, but how about getting the kids back to basics with some natural fun?
The Council have been working with Northern Ireland Forest School Association for a number of years, encouraging and supporting teachers on how to bring learning outside – and how just about any outdoor space can be used for natural adventure and learning.
But the teachers don’t have to have all the fun! A new family activity pack has been launched to encourage parents to play with their kids – like they used to play! A gentle reminder of how to build dens, search for mini-beast, create mini-beast mansions - the options are endless, all we need to do is kick start the imaginations!
So this summer, when cabin fever kicks in, pay a visit to some natural space – and let the kids (big and small) get mucky and remember how to be kids again.
